Il y a quelques semaines, une de mes amies m’a pointé du doigt un modèle Phildar en me disant : « Tiens, c’est bientôt mon anniversaire ! Ca pourrait te donner des idées… »
Ni une ni deux, je cours au magasin, achète toutes les pelotes, m’installe devant le patron et là… Grand moment de solitude ! Le modèle semble très simple (une sorte de Trendy Châle version jersey) mais les explications de Phildar pour placer les diminutions me laissent sans voie : ça ressemblait à un problème de mathématiques !!!

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine showed me a Phildar pattern and said: « Hey, it’s my birthday soon! It might give you some ideas … »
So I ran to the yarn shop, bought all the balls, sat in front of the pattern and … I was shocked! The pattern looks very simple (sort of Trendy Shawl) but the explanations of the book were incomprehensible: it looked like a math problem!!!

Finalement j’ai fait l’inverse du patron, à ma sauce : j’ai commencé par la pointe, en faisant 2 augmentations tous les rangs endroits. Au bout de 20cm, j’ai fait 4 augmentations par rangs endroits.

Finally I did the opposite of the pattern: I started with the tip and increased two stitches every knit row. 20cm after the start, I made four increases by knit row.

Le petit truc sympa de ce modèle : la couleur. En effet, la chose astucieuse de ce châle c’est qu’il est tricoté avec 3 fils de couleurs et de matières différentes ! C’est ce qui donne ce « vieux rose » brillant.

The nice little trick of this model: the color. Indeed, the clever thing is that the shawl is knitted with 3 different yarns! This is what gives this shiny « old pink ».

Comme les fils sont très fins et tricotés avec des aiguilles 7mm, ça donne un côté très souple et vaporeux ! Il est également très léger et très moelleux autour du cou.

As the yarns are very thin and knitted with needles 7mm, it gives a very soft and wispy side! It is also very light and soft around the neck.

Le gros bémol de cette laine : elle est très duveteuse ! Donc un ENFER à tricoter (surtout avec 3 fils en même temps…).
Ce châle a déjà rejoint sa propriétaire, et j’espère qu’il lui plait 😉

The big downside of this wool: it is very fluffy! This is HELL to knitting (especially with 3 yarns at the same time …).

Après avoir vu fleurir des dizaines de Trendy châles sur la toile, je me suis dis qu’il fallait que je m’en fasse un ! Le choix de la laine s’est fait rapidement : j’avais déjà deux écheveaux de laine Aran en stock. J’ai choisi de la doubler avec un fil argenté pour donner un peu plus de relief à la laine qui a malheureusement une couleur assez fade une fois tricotée. Et pour le tricotage, rien de plus facile : des kilomètres de point mousse, avec une augmentation à chaque rang.

After seeing dozens of « Trendy châles » appear on the Internet, I told to myself that I had to make one! The choice of the wool came very quickly to me: I already had two skeins of wool Aran in stock. I chose to double it with a silver string to give more depth to the wool which has unfortunately an insipid color once knitted. And for the knitting, nothing is easier: miles of garter stitch, with an increase in each row.

Malgré sa construction très basique, ce châle m’a fait beaucoup hésiter tout au long du tricotage. Est-ce que cette couleur « ficelle » ira avec ma peau couleur aspirine ? Est-ce que j’aurai assez de laine pour faire un grand châle tout moelleux ?

Despite its very basic construction, this shawl made me hesitate a whole lot throughout the knitting. Will that color « string » go with my pale skin? Will I have enough wool to make a very big soft shawl?

Finalement, je ne suis pas mécontente de ce résultat mais pas entièrement satisfaite. OUI je peux porter cette couleur, à condition d’avoir des vêtements sombres et d’être bien maquillée (ou alors d’être un peu plus bronzée, mais comme je ne vois le soleil que 3 semaines par an….). OUI mon châle est très moelleux, mais pas assez enveloppant à mon goût.

In the end, I’m not unhappy with the result but yet not entirely satisfied. YES I can wear this color, as long as I wear dark clothes and have propper make-up (or maybe be a little more tanned, but I only see the sun 3 weeks per year ….). YES my shawl is very soft, but not big enough to be well wrapped in it for my taste.

Verdict : Le modèle est sympa, et j’aimerais bien en refaire un avec une pelote supplémentaire. Mais bon, on ne va pas se mentir : du point mousse du début à la fin, ce n’est pas intéressant du tout ! C’est pratique pour tricoter devant la télé ou dans le métro, et c’est un modèle idéal pour les débutants, mais c’est assez ennuyeux au bout d’un moment. Donc, je ne me sens pas encore prête moralement à enchainer direct sur un deuxième, mais je le garde dans un coin de ma tête !

Verdict: The design is nice, and I’d love to do another one with an additional ball. But hey, let’s not lie to ourselves: garter stitch from beginning to end, this is not interesting at all! This is useful for knitting in front of the TV or on the tube, and it is an ideal model for beginners, but it’s pretty boring after a while. So I do not feel morally ready to start another one yet, but I keep it in mind!
